The most profound moment in my career was not a deal, a promotion or an award.
It was when a large part of the Wise Systems team came together to pray.
We prayed for the Company
And we prayed for healing.
A grieving Executive had just lost a very significant loved one.
And a few of us thought the right thing to do was to bring the company together and pray for him.
The result was the most powerful force of unification I’ve experienced at any point in my career.
And here’s why I think we’ll start to see a lot more of this in the tech world going forward…
We have an entire generation(s) of people who want to find things that feel more solid
Unfulfilled by years of advice on self-care, staying healthy and pursuing a career
And feeling like things in this world have just gone off the rails a bit too quickly. Like we’re hanging on to the edge of the ship.
Artificial intelligence, election cycles, general anxiety…
There’s a strong desire for assurance that we’re going to be ok.
This force is causing a spike in the spiritually curious and those picking up their first Bible.
And the data speaks for itself:
Bible sales are up 22% in the US through the end of October, compared with the same period last year. By contrast, total US print book sales were up less than 1% in that period.
And it makes sense.
The Bible is a grand epic love story of the great questions of life.
What do we do with grief and anger, what are we here for, where is the world going?
The Bible provides a counterpart in a conversation about what we’re doing at this time.
And prayer provides a direct connection to God and the comfort that provides.
I run a (mostly) daily devotional on WhatsApp where I share a personal reflection on chapters/verses of the Bible.
