It’s true…
A lot of these third party shops that make fake variations of Tag watches actually make them better than Tag themselves
This makes them nearly impossible to authenticate
So while some people will say that your Tag is authentic…Tag themselves will say that the same watch is NOT authentic.
And you know what makes matters worse?
Tag themselves can’t even pinpoint why it’s not authentic
I’m not making this up.
So it puts people in a very bad position of being able to determine if they are actually selling an authentic watch or a fake watch
This is why it becomes a very blurred line on the “cheaper” scale of the luxury watch market.
And why I have outright stopped trading Tag as a brand.
The reality is though that Tags are very popular. And they’re peddled by some top celebrities like Ryan Gosling. And who doesn’t want to look a little more like him?
So should you just pick up a brand new one at the mall?
Nope.
There’s no good reason - EVER - to buy a Tag brand new. You literally lose 70-80% of your cost basis the minute you put that thing on your wrist.
It’s one of the worst deals in the luxury watch space. And the Ryan Gosling ‘cool factor’ can’t make up for that difference…
And in many cases, it won’t even be manufactured as well as the fakes!
Don’t get me wrong. I do love some Tag watches. Especially the Gulf Monaco.
But for now and into the future, I’ll only admire them from afar.
And I’ll never advise anyone asking to consider one.
