It's considered the holy grail of basketball cards.
Not me. I bought the undervalued Jordan rookie that the market has long overlooked.
Two years ago, I was at a card show in Chicago. Flipping through cases. And I stopped at this Star '85 Michael Jordan.
Most collectors walk right past it. They don't realize this card came out a year before the Fleer. It shows MJ wearing the banned Jordan 1s. The reverse dunk shot is just insane. And it trades at half the value of a similarly graded '86 Fleer.
I didn't even negotiate hard for a discount. I gladly paid market value.
Because I saw something the market hasn't priced in yet.
The dunk shot is better. The banned sneakers are a hidden detail most miss. And the market value gap between this card and the '86 Fleer is too wide to last.
This is how I think about everything I collect: watches, sports memorabilia, and cards. I'm not chasing what everyone already wants. I'm finding what's undervalued. And what they'll want in five years.
Stop consuming and following the crowd. Start acting like a portfolio manager for passion assets.
What's something you own that most people overlook?
Everyone wants the the '86 Fleer Jordan rookie.
