I get the same question all the time from guys new to the watch market.
"I want a <$10k Rolex. What do you recommend?"
I always answer the same way:
A cheap Rolex makes you look uneducated. Unimpressive. And unmemorable.
Is that how you want to be viewed in the boardroom or the backyard bbq this summer?
Rolex really only gets interesting in the $50k+ range.
But if you're just getting started and insist on Rolex, prepare to spend up to $25k. These are the only models I'd recommend because they're strong assets with real appreciation potential:
Green Dial Datejust Fluted Bezel on Jubilee
Sprite, Pepsi, Bruce Wayne, or Batman/Batgirl
Blue or White Dial Sky-Dweller on Jubilee
But like I've said time and time again here on LinkedIn....there are SO many better options than Rolex in the $10-$25k range.
Blancpain. Ulysse Nardin. Panerai.
Assets. Networking tools. Wearable art. The guys wearing these pieces are ALWAYS the most interesting in the room.
What's your favorite alternative to Rolex for the first-time buyer?
Don't be the guy wearing the cheapest Rolex in the room.
